Red hearts for St. Valentine’s

St. Valentine’s Day has come, and I wanted to treat my honey to something sweet. Plus, I was also going to see my father-in-law. So why not to make some cookies? Heart-shaped cookie cutter was obtained from Target last Saturday. Red food paint is the pantry. Yes, cookies, an all time favorite treat by a cooking anti-fan:)

I followed my favorite cookies recipe I used last Christmas. It is fast and easy, and always works out.

St. Valentine’s home-made cookies

Ingredients:

Pastry

  • 7 oz (200 g) butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 14 oz (400 g) flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1.7 oz (50 gr) blueberries
Icing

  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ tsp red paint

Directions:
  1. Preheat the oven to 350F (180C).
  2. Soften butter.
  3. Stir in sugar, salt and eggs. Mix well.
  4. Add flour and make pastry.
  5. Divide the pastry into 2 equal parts.
  6. Add blueberries to one part and cinnamon to the other.
  7. Roll out the pastry and cut cookies using a cookie cutter.
  8. Put cookies on a greased pan and bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes.
  9. Cool down ready cookies.
  10. Prepare icing: combine sugar, water and paint in a small saucepan, mix well and heat.
  11. Ice cookies by dipping them into the icing or covering with a trowel.
  12. Wait for the icing to get set.

Give these little home-made hearts to your loved ones and enjoy together with them.

Happy St. Valentine's Day!
